If you are interested in pursuing just what this die made, I'm sure that serial # could be correlated in Mint records. Possibly an archival records search, or just sending a general question. May even get copies of documentation?

I would love to know what this die struck and its history. Where do I go to do that Crazyb0?

Maybe start by asking the person from ebay that you bought it from - ask him/her where they got it from? Maybe they have some information?

Thank you Mark for that suggestions. I will message the seller. I did a live chat with a person named Carlos from the U.S. Mint on their website. He wasn't able to find the records because it was too old to be found on their current records. :)

Thank you Coinfrog! I am glad you are enjoying this thread I made. It just gets better and better over the course of time. I will let everyone know on this thread about where this seller got this die from. Personally, one of the best threads I've done on here.

Did you ask them how far back the records go before they delete them?

I didn't ask him how far it went before they get deleted, but it is still cool though. I now know a little more information on this die a little bit. Could be from the 20th Century possibly. But I don't know because I didn't ask that question. The operator ended the live chat after I had no more questions. :)

Thanks for posting. I have the only known remaining printing plates for Oklahoma sales tax tokens issued in 1937. Someone cut a large chunk of the plate and mounted it on wood for a presentation.
I'm still looking for other neat dies like those shown here. Maybe ill see if there is a Minnesota left.

You're very welcome! It has been a pleasure to post this on here as I just learned a ton of new information right here. That story about the printing plates you have is amazing and should be posted on here if you want to. Look on ebay and look up "us mint die set" and you'll see some for sale on there. They can be pricey, but in the end, it's worth having! :)

You are correct Coop. They sell them to the public so they can collect them. I am very happy to share this as this thread I made keeps getting better and better. I got a message back from the seller I bought it from. Here's what he said. Quote:Good Morning, We have a coin store here in Fort Wayne. The die set you bought (as well as the other one we have for sale), came from an estate we purchased, and they have been on our back room shelf since. Decided to list them on ebay after.

Thank you jbuck! It is nice to see you here and I can imagine you are really enjoying this thread I created. I figured I would post this since it's a rarely brought up discussion on here. This post will probably be brought up again a couple years later to do a demonstration on someone's thread and that's what I want. I want people to learn a ton so that's why I posted this.
