Hi, I would like to ask if someone knows why the coin of USSR before and after 1948 have different codes and they are considered like different "by kind" in webpages like ucoin.net, if they are apparently exactly the same design and material.

Older coin has 11 ribbons in the state emblem signifying 11 republics of the Soviet Union. After World War II they got five more republics so they added five ribbons. Same thing has happened in the other denominations too and in different periods.

The best I can tell, Y# 107 has 5 ribbons on each wreath on the obverse, and Y#114 has 7 ribbons.

Both varieties exist for 1946 & 1948.

Edit: too slow and slightly incorrect. Y# 114 has 8 on one wreath and 7 on the other.
