Found these 2 in the last of the 1940's LWC's I was looking through. Your thoughts, "woodies" or no?

Think its cleaning Mark. It could be, but the yellow looks like the cold after I give them a dunk in stuff like Tarnix. Makes em yellow, and they never tone right afterwards either. Does something to the surface metal.

The 1940 looks like a woodie to me Mark, but I have never used Tarnix or the like on a cent like Crazyb0 mentioned.

I understand why you would ask on both of them. If they are woodies they are cousins three times removed.

Neither is worth saving. The very slight woodie appearance is too light to garner any premium.

A no, 2 yes, 1 maybe. I have some Tarnex so I guess my next step is to try to duplicate the results and compare. And if I start only collecting for a premium and not for fun anymore I may have to step back and take a break from this hobby.

To me, it doesn't matter if it's a minor Woodie or not. As long as you're having fun, keep them.

You're welcome. Don't let people tell you what to keep and not keep as it's your choice. I keep stuff that's not worth a lot or anything, but that's because I enjoy my hobby a lot and don't care so much about premiums. :)

Agree the '40 may technically be a woodie, but neither of these is very impressive.

I'm with E&V, if you like them keep them. I've kept every Wheat cent I've ever found.
