Bilbo Pillar of the Community United States 812 Posts	Posted 05/17/2008 9:40 pm Based on your description, I'm guessing a "filled die." Sometimes grease or other foreign matter gets into the coin die. The material fills that portion of the die, so the coin minted is missing that portion of the design. Filled dies commonly obliterate a letter or two or a numeral or two. This is considered a mint "error" with no particular value. However, a picture might eliminate the guesswork here. NGiles Pillar of the Community United States 527 Posts	Posted 05/18/2008 4:25 pm I have a cent that has the same thing, the last digit in the date is missing. It is a filled die. A piece of metal or something gets stuck in the little recessed areas on the die, it results in something missing on the coin. I thought I had found 1800 year old Lincoln Penny.
