Poll Question
I am currently putting together a certified set of Franklins. I don't have an unlimited budget and may need to decide whether FBLs are more important than grade. I am specifically thinking of the 53-S and the 63. For instance, would you choose an MS65 witout FBL or MS63 with FBL? Thoughts?

Franklins in MS65 are very reasonably priced compared to other issues. Personally, I would rather have the higher grade.
If you do go the Full Bell Lines route, there is a noticeable difference in attribution between PCGS and NGC. I believe it has been discussed here previously and that NGC is more demanding in its requirements than PCGS.
Interesting to see how the poll turns out.

I voted to sacrifice FBL for grade. Ultimately, though, eye appeal is the most important factor.

Most will sacrifice FBL for grade since the 53 S would be a show stopper for the vast majority of people

Grade and eye appeal are everything for me.

I think there is an issue with the poll since voted for FBL with lower grade but that shows as having zero votes. anyone can put together a set of MS65 Franklins, a challenge is MS franklins with FBL. What we like however doesn't matter; ultimately its your choice

Should only be considered in MS grades (that have no wear). Wear would mask if FBL or not.
Having said that, I would prefer an FBL in MS60, to a non FBL MS62. I would not prefer an FBL in MS63, to a non FBL in MS65.
Still comes down to a matter of value judgement. That judgement has to be yours.
If grades are the same, then a no brainer: Choose the FBL every time.

I will take MS65 w/o FLB anytime over MS63 w/FBL.

Technical Grade + Eye Appeal = Value.
Strike is a post numerical assignment under eye appeal.

I voted grade over FBL designation as well.

I looked for a decent 1953-S for years. I had a shabby one in my Dansco I needed to upgrade. Well I found one at the Manchester, New Hampshire show for $38. Pretty nice coin.

If you choose to go FBL over grade, be sure to have a high coin budget . But that's not even an issue per-say . I would much rather have a frosty white MS-65 w/out FBL . Then a 63 with FBL hands down .
