They are called roller lines. Dirt or grease got on the rolling machine wheels and were transfer onto the coin

To be more exact, it is from the bronze coil from which the blanks are punched. The rollers are used to compress the metal to the proper thickness.

I see them on just about every 80 and 81 cent I come across thought it was a woodie first one I found
