Hello, I am new to coin collecting, and I wasn't sure what grade this 1892 P Morgan silver dollar would be. The only thing that I do know is that 1892 Silver Dollars tend to be more on the rare side, and in terms of condition I was thinking it might be extremely fine teetering on about uncirculated, but I honestly don't know. XF-AU is probably about right for the details of the coin. Unfortunately, it's quite likely to have been cleaned in a manner that is not considered market-acceptable, which I can't confirm from the pictures. If you are new to collecting, welcome to the hobby, but you owe it to yourself to find people who can help you avoid purchasing mistakes. While purchasing coins certified by reputable grading services can protect you, be aware that not all entities that use slab-style holders for coins they grade are reputable. There's a good online grading guide at https://www.PCGS.com/photograde/ If you can get to a bigger show to look around and ask questions, that would be a great experience. If you are interested in investing in a classroom experience, the ANA Summer Seminar is also a great place to start. (Disclosure: I'm an instructor for the Morgan dollar class.)

 Your coin is graded by a service called SGS (Star Grading Service). Unfortunately, SGS is what is called a "basement slabber": a person who puts their coins in slabs themselves and sells them. SGS cannot be relied upon as a good grading service. The only grading services for US coins that can be relied on are PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG. Your coin has been harshly cleaned, so its value is lower than that of an uncleaned coin. I would grade it as AU details, cleaned. It is, unfortunately, not worth nearly as much as an uncleaned coin in Mint State (Uncirculated). Try to buy coins that have not been cleaned or altered. Their value is much higher.

I appreciate the quick and incredibly helpful responses! Thankfully (and unfortunately for my Uncle) this was part of a gift of coins he was passing to me. The bulk of the coins I received are fortunately not from SGS, and are either slabbed by himself (without cleaning) or from the ANACS.

 The coin is harshly cleaned, which will result in losing most of the value over the silver content. If you bought it, then send it back. Education is the key.. so keep on reading here at CCF.

Learn what you can from your uncle if you can do so. Perhaps he has stories that can be passed down as well.

 to CCF. Not much more to add about this Morgan or SGS but if you have coins graded by ANACS they should be fine. Some people don't like the blue label slabs but the old white label and newer yellow label slabs tend to be accurate. They just don't command the premiums at auction as compared to NGC and PCGS.
