Looks like you got some German trading stock there!

2nd coin down, on the outside left... "ein kreuzer"
Or the coin below the coin below the kreuzer...
Looks like an empire pfennig.

I'd say you did very well indeed! Are they all 19th century?

I think the Kreuzer is Austro-Hungarian, and I see a Swiss 1885 20 Rappen in a nicer grade--worth a buck easily.

Btw, if you like the coins, they're worth something besides book value. Coin collecting gets sorta boring when it's only about numbers.

Update: I was wrong on the Kreuzer; it's a German coin. It does resemble some for the German colony of German East Africa--look for DOA somewhere on the coin. I don't have an older guide to get more specific.

I think you were right first time, KurtS. The eagle on the coat of arms is double-headed and the crown is imperial, so it's definitely Austrian.

While none are silver, there are still a few interesting ones there. The "silvery" one at lower-centre, with the double-headed eagle on one side and "20" with Russian-style language around it, is a 20 para from the old Kingdom of Serbia; 1883 is the slightly scarcer of the two dates this coin was issued, CV $4 in VF.

The Italian 10 centesimi looks to be in better condition than you normally find in scratchtrays, but unfortunately it has the commoner B/I (Birmingham) mintmark.

The ones with a single-headed eagle on one side and "Deutsches Reich" on the other are from the German Empire. Germany had lots of different mintmarks on their earlier coins (A through to J). Look for the mintmarks at the base of the obverse, on either side of the eagle's tail.

If you have any questions about particular coins, we'll be happy to help.

They are old, but, without looking key dates, Iīm afraid they arenīt a great deal.

- Austrian coins: 20 and 2 heller, really common coins. "Ein kreuzer" would be more interesting, but the coin is cracked, and poor grade.

- Italy. 10 Centesimi. Itīs not a bad coin, but Humbertoīs bust is "polished"

- Brazil. 100 Reis. The coin is common and heavily circulated.

- France. 5 Centimes, "Ceres" type, is not rare. 10 Centimes "Second Empire" is better and Iīd investigate its value (the mintmark is D). 5 Centimes "Second Empire", poor grade.

- German coins. 2, 5 and 10 pfennig. Really common coins in their grade but I canīt see the mintmarks.

- Spanish coins. 5 Centimos "First Republic", very, very common coin in this grade. 10 Centimos "Alfonso XII", nothing special, I think.

- British coins. Well, I donīt collect British so, I donīt give my opinion.

- Hungary. 10 Filler, another common coin.

- Switzerland, 20 Rappen, and Argentinian coin. Completely unknown for me.

- Serbia, 20 para, nice coin but heavily circulated.
