Hello. I was digging through some junk and came across these. I have a few questions.. 1869? - The date is light but does this look like an 1869 to you? It could be an 1889 but it looks like 1869 to me. I know it's in terrible shape but it appears the 1869 is fairly uncommon so this could be a hole filler for me. Full Liberty Coins - I also came across these two. I can clearly see a full Liberty on the 1901. The L is a little light on the 1882 due to verdigris but all other letters are clearly visible. Unfortunately both have a lot of green on them. Are these of a high enough grade to be worth trying to restore? Thanks and happy new year to everyone!

Soak your coins in 100% Acetone (you can buy it at any hardware store or Home Depot) for about 30 minutes per side - that may take some of the gunk off of your cents and make them look better. Might have to get in the gunky areas with a toothpick or if you have any available, a thorn from a rose branch clipping. And your first pic does look like 1869

with 1869. Other than acetone and light gunk removal these really shouldn't be "played with" further. Hopefully those can all be added to your collection.

It's 1869 (feather points between IC in AMERICA) Recommend acetone and then a long Verdi-Care soak, or olive oil if you don't mind waiting.

Awesome, thanks for the confirmation! I haven't filled a hole in the FE/IHP album in a LONG time! I know I'll never complete it but still happy to make a little progress. I've never tried acetone so maybe I will try on some junk wheat cents before trying on these.

Acetone works 95% of the time, and usually doesn't harm the coin.

Post us an "after" picture once you give them a good soak. Good Luck!

Could you show us the reverse of the 1869, please?

Make sure the acetone is near pure not like the finger nail polish remover

The reverse will at least rule out a post 1872 date.
