One of my favorite coins in my collection is an 1880 Shilling I bought many years ago. Unfortunately, the dealer I bought it from had it in a 2x2 flip and I left it in that flip for 13 years until I recently realized it and moved it to a better holder. While transferring the coin I noticed the edge has a green tinge to it and what almost looks like a smear on young Victoria's face. My questions are, would the coin be worth sending to be certified and slabbed, and would some sort of conservation be needed first.

I really need to get better at taking pictures of my coins, these were the best I could do for the moment, the "smear" on her cheek only shows at certain angles, and from what I have read I am afraid it might be damage from pvc. The insert that was in the flip was by a company called "American Heritage Minting INC" and claimed the coin was "gem BU 65" as they called it. The coin is absolutely gorgeous in person. The same dealer also sold me a beautiful 1840 3 pence in just as beautiful shape but for some reason I didn't wait as long to put it into a good holder, I'll post pics of that coin later.

Slight wear in hair over Vikkie's ear, and on high points of hair bun. (obv.)
No wear on orb to the crown, leaf spines visible. (rev.)
Split grade,
gEF / Unc. (British grading).

Pleasing example

Clean in acetone only, to preserve the patina.
Potential value borderline in justifying shipping and grading fees.
None of my coins are slabbed irrespective of coin value, because the slabs clash with my storage and display choices.
Your choice may be different.

I've acquired about 6 slabbed coins over the years and kept them in their plastic coffins. Raw coins for me every time and a bit of cabinet friction is a small price to pay.I really can't remember where they are.Coins need looking at and the pleasure of hammered silver is the something to behold. Each to their own.

It's really nice, but don't think it's worth grading.
