This octagonal coin weighs 17.56 g and is 24.8 mm across from flat side to flat side. The date reads SE 1693, corresponding to AD 1771 and the reign of Lakshmi Singh in Assam, India. I have not found this coin listed in any book or database, and will appreciate your thoughts on where I might find it listed or any other thoughts you may have. For clarity I have uploaded three shots of the obverse under different lighting conditions, then three shots of the reverse, then one of the edge.

Here are the reasons I believe it is authentic.

1. Appears to be struck, not cast. The writing is sharp and correct, matching the silver rupee of the same ruler. The edges are clean (no filemarks etc.) and no bubbles on surface.
2. The weight is correct for 1.5 mohur (11.66 g x 1.5 = 17.49 g).
3. Measuring the density of the metal in my laboratory it matched gold.
4. At the same place where I bought this, I saw four more of these in more worn condition (essentially one grade lower than this one). In general I don't think fakes are likely to show different degrees of wear.

I would like to validate the authenticity of this coin but am not sure exactly how.
If it is described somewhere that would help. Any ideas will be appreciated.

This one pops up on a web search: https://coins.ha.com/itm/india/inde...ction-120115

There are differences, starting with the shape...

That listing doesn't even know what that coin is.
They claim is is this coin struck in gold:

The lettering matches this one rupee:

The date looks like it might be 1698SE, I'm not sure on the last digit but it's not a 1.

This coin plagues me, there does not seem to be a consensus on when Ahom(Assam) started minting their own coins. It seems cowries were mostly used and circulated along side any coins that were used at least until the 17th century ad. Not only that, but there are at least 4 possible languages, the rulers often are not mentioned on the coins, and I cannot find a decent reference for them. NGC seems to have the most listed but they are often incomplete, and they only have the one 1.5 Mohur. I found several more, they are all unique, other then being 17 g ~ and 25mm. I cannot find any mention of them in a reference, it is always an auction or a certification.

However, since they don't seem to be well documented, your may be real. I do have a couple concerns: First the lines bordering the dots seem to be offset in places, Second there seems to be some raised dots around some of the devices, and third all of the letter/numbering is sharply angular. Here are some good pictures of 1 Mohurs for comparison.

I also found this description in an old auction catalog:

I think you need to get a XRF analysis, It may be a jewelers copy or it might be a re-struck coin, but if it is real it should be very high purity.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and suggestions.
Should I send it in to be graded and slabbed? And if so, which grading/slabbing service would be the best for this?

I personally am opposed to slabbing: TPG's seem very arbitrary to me. Though they might be able to authenticate it for you. I personally think I would start by taking it to a jeweler to get an XRF analysis.
