Hi all. I bought a 2003 coronation proof cent. I paid $11.50 It was graded as PF-67 by ICCS. I know nothing about graded coins as I normally never buy them. I needed this cent for my penny set. I am curious about a couple of things, since these coins were only struck as proof coins, what would the average coin grade be right from the set? What is the lowest grade proofs? In the comments section, they typed red; ultra heavy cameo. Wouldn't all proof cents be red with heavy cameos? My final decision now it either leave it alone in a box someplace or cut it out and put it into the cent collection

I would cut it out and put it with the rest of the collection.

Great pick-up Since you have a red UH cameo I would leave in the holder. A good option to store ICCS flips is the 12-pocket binder pages for 2x2 holders. Congrats!

That would be the double date 1 cent then? All proof coins are designated as UHC. PF67 would be about the lowest grade unless it was somehow damaged. Charlton's doesn't even list anything lower than PF67. High end would be PF70. Can't see any harm in breaking it out if you want to display it with the rest of your 1 cents

PF-68 is the highest grade I've seen by ICCS, with most being PF-67.

Yes, a grade of 68 is the highest grade ICCS will give for any coin no matter how nice it is, but PCGS will grade up to PF70.

Doesn't ICCS list grades verified?

Yes JimmyD, it is the 1953-2003 dated coin from the coronation set. Sounds like someone wasted money getting this graded if they are all UHC and start at PF67. Glad it was not me. The coin is already out and the plastic flip has found it's way into the recycling bag. Thanks all for your input

It's all relative as to grading coins. I'm quite comfortable getting every decimal coin graded by ICCS as the years tick by just so I have uniformity in my collection. I know full well that the value of most modern coins will never exceed the cost of soft/hard slabbing but really don't care! Waste of money? Perhaps, but there are many things we all can waste money on.

Trimble, I'm on the same page as you! Not saying its the best thing to do or that everyone should do it but I like having my coins graded too. But everyone should do what they like and if thats whitman coin albums, have at it with the scissors and cut it out. Just be carefully with the scissors, don't cut the coin. :)
