I rarely buy any NCLT, and I hate the fact that when you do, you are mostly buying cardboard, but could you walk past this face? What is worse, I bought two. I am going to try and convince myself they are for my sons, but really, could you walk past this face!! I feel like such a sucker.

To tell you the truth latman100, I prefer the cardboard than the coin on that issue. He is just sooo cute. The coin should do well, albeit on the back of that puppy, and collectors that have to have every coin in the $1.00 series. That face just says pick me please.

hey latman, Where did you pick that up from?
Do you guys pick these coins up from the post office?
He doesn't look much like a sniffer dog..

Farnby, have to agree the coin is nothing special.
Eddy, some post offices may have them, these I got from my local coin dealer. You can order directly from the mint, but it costs the same as your dealer, cheaper actually because no postage. And I like to support my dealer, helps build a relationship for when you are looking for something special.
And customs have been using Beagles as sniffers for a long time now. I guess you don't feel as bad getting busted by a cute dog as opposed to a giant rottweiler.

Yeh I didn't see them at the coin dealer on saturday, I won't order from the mint, I'll just go to the post office or coin dealer for my Uncirculating coins, thanks for info.
US television must be getting the better of me, watching THEIR shows with their sniffer dogs in it

G'day, the flight home from Bali gets to Darwin about 4.30am. I just want to go home. Those beagles always pick me, apparently on the basis that sometime in the last week, I have had food in my daypack. So, I find it difficult to warm to these particular mutts.
Regarding types of dogs used:
Because AQIS sniffer dogs have contact with the public, they favoured the beagle: smallish stature, and non-aggressive nature.
Customs uses a wide variety of breeds and cross-breeds. Customs dogs have little, if any, contact with the public. They select on the basis of sensitivity: they actually measure the dog's ability to find the slightest trace of a prohibited substance. We have had some very effective dogs in Darwin.
N.T.Police use labradors for drug detection, but other Police Forces use German Shepherds.
I'm pretty sure N.T. Corrections use German Shepherds for both detection and security.
Our Seppo friends remain convinced that their Bloodhounds can't be beat at tracking.

That's pretty effective marketing. Beagles are used as sniffers in the US too--usually involving travelers from S.America.

There is a very nice lapel pin out too with just the dog on. A member at our coin club in Brisbane had some that he distributed to those that wanted one a couple of months back. I'm glad I got one.
As for sniffer dogs, my work uses Labrador or Labrador cross dogs to sniff out Red Imported Fire Ants and their nests and another to find Red-eared Slider Turtles' eggs. The ant dog can find a single worker ant foraging in a field. The turtle dog has found eggs buried in the mud/soil. They are training up two more dogs at present.

This was first posted here and even though coin design is cartoonish the theme is good but why does RAM keep flooding the hobby with $1 coins that costs us $12.95

I hadn't seen the coin before, so I'll repost it here. Nice beagle--one of my favorite dogs What do you bet Tasmania gets "lost in baggage"?

I adopted one of those, and he arrived at my home today in fact. The cardboard is indeed the cutest packaging I've seen for a coin, yet. I'm glad I have mine!
