Another R5 Roman? Or? - Coin Community Forum

If you are a long time collector like me, when you get bored, you should sift through your "junk" coins. The first picture is an R5 Constantine that I submitted to Wildwinds several years ago. Constantine I, AE follis, Cyzicus. CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG, laureate, draped, cuirassed bust right / GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS, two soldiers holding spears and shields with two standards between them, dot in o on banners. Mintmark: dot SMK Γ. RIC VII Cyzicus 95. This actual coin is on Wildwinds. The second picture is one I just found sifting. Dig out your RIC- or- check online- let me know what you think. Sine RIC was written the rarity scale has not been updated some a lot of the coins that were rated as scarce and no longer that. Personally I pay very little attention to the rarity scale anymore unless the coin is in FDC. Report this Post to the Staff

tenbobbit Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 701 Posts	Posted 01/17/2018 11:19 am The 2nd coin had an R4 rating but as Ron mentioned those can be misleading. As it happens I do a similar thing with my trays of LRB's, ignore them for a while and then go through a couple when I'm bored. Something always turns up, for example here is one that I have been trying to find a sold example of without success over the last couple of days, that's when I start to think about rarity.
