I'm looking through my 1982 pennies and sorting them by weight and date size. Are the small dates low mintage? I only have a few small date zinc. I have a good number small date copper. And only a few D but I'm on the east coast so that's typical. worth 1 cent right? but still fun to find.

According to the Red Book, no records were kept of the different mintages vis-a-vis composition and date size. I recently had fun going through a tub of pocket change and am missing the D dates as well. I'm on the east coast, too, so I'm familiar with your plight!

I know the 1982 Zinc Small Date is generally the most pricey of the "normal" 7 coins. One of my tasks planned for this year is to sort through my 1982 coins. I toss all of the 1982 Zinc Large Dates (save for really nice BU examples), but have kept all of the other issues from that year. I hope one of these 1982-D copper small dates is lurking in my hoard. http://www.numismaticnews.net/artic...copper-found

The individual variety mintages were not recorded by the Mint. They only kept records of total production.
I believe the small date copper cents are the lowest mintage. They are much harder to find in circulation. The next lowest mintage is likely the 1982 small date zinc (SDZ). For sure the largest mintage is for the 1982 large date copper (LDC).
I'm surprised you have a "good number" of the small date copper. I hardly ever find one while searching - I actually find more wheat cents than those.

The 1982P small date zinc (SDZ) are also difficult to find in high grades. It's also a very poor issue with plating bubbles, black stains, weak strikes and hits the norm. This is the best one I could find after doing YEARS of searching:

Thanks for the suggestion BadThad. After careful examination my large date copper pile just grew larger. I still have some small date copper cents left but I've scheduled that eye exam that I've been putting off. (Oops- in the photo 3 on the left look to be large date) down to 9.

I know these are only worth 1 cent but I'm interested in making the correct ID. I have these additional 12 copper cents that I think are small dates too. Right or Wrong?

They are easy to tell, the large date has 1982 very close to the rim. Large Date:

Where is the best place to go for pictures and descriptions of all 1982 types?

I need some enlightenment. Am I correct that these are all large date 1982-D?
