I have an 1885-O Morgan dollar that's in an NGC holder. It's graded MS 66 with a star, it also has a CAC sticker. The holder is scratched to the point where it is annoying. My questions are: I have submitted to PCGS, but never to NGC. NGC seems to have a much larger menu of charges from which to choose. If I decided to beholder, what would be the most economical way to go (time is NOT of the essence)? Also, what about the CAC sticker? Do they have some way to transfer that (I doubt it), or perhaps forward to CAC who will then charge me to apply a new sticker? More likely I'm guessing I would have to resubmit the coin to CAC and take my chances. By the way, I'm not an NGC member, would I have to join to get it reholdered?

Yes you will need to be a NGC member to get it reholdered.

The CAC sticker will be lost. The Cert number should stay the same on the reholder though so you can make a note when it's resubmitted to CAC for a resticker. If you have it regraded and and the grade or cert number changes that's when you have to just resubmit it normally to CAC though if only the cert changed or it was crossed over you can send the old cert with it with a note it was stickered as xyz before

Since time isn't important, why don't you wait a month and take it over to the Long Beach Expo in person? You'll save on shipping costs.

You will have be a member of the NGC Collector's society, which will cost you $25 (Associate member, cheapest option with no grading credits) OR if you're ANA member you can submit to NGC without being a Collector's society member. If you're not an ANA member, then why not join? It's only $28, so for the extra $3 you get ANA member benefits and online access to the Numismatist. You have to send NGC a form with your ANA info for them to set your account up. So, if you go this route then you need to do this before submitting for the reholder.

I believe that you will lose the CAC sticker on reholdering the coin.

If you are an ANA member NGC is free, I believe.

Join the ANA and get their great magazine and services, if not.
