Looking at a 1844-O half dollar that's graded AU58. I think I can get it for a few hundred. Good deal?

That's what feared. I would avoid it. It's in a basement slab and is far from au-58. Looks more like a 50 and that's being generous. Also looks like environmental at 7:00- 8:00 on the reverse.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the input Mike. I looked at other pictures of 58-60 and it appeared less appealing.

always beware of any slab that is not PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICCS, and I'll be generous and say ICG. Anything else should be treated worse than raw.

It's XF-40 at best. AU-58...come on!
