Hello I have this heavy paperweight lol Previously it was a 1952 silver dollar but that fact is barely discernible. What causes this type of damage or effect. Looks melted almost, but not quite. Thanks in advance for your thoughts...
1952 Silver $1
Weight 22.17g -1.16g/ 1952 $1=23.33g

Edit*** It doesn't seem to be paint, by eye only. Haven't put anything on it to test. To me looks like melted silver that has been cleaned.

Could have been heated or torched, or a Dryer Coin, or just extremely worn (aka a pocket piece).

Pocket pieces command a premium among some collectors (myself included!).

It looks to me like a "pocket dollar". There are some "low ball" collectors out there that treasure coins like this. I think it takes a lot of finger-rubbing to get a dollar worn down this much. I have been carrying a commemorative dollar in my pocket with the rest of my change for the last 6 years or so & it's worn down to about VF so far.

It is very worn in a semi-artificial manner. I don't think it is a Dryer Coin.

Could it possibly be?Internal Metal Displacement, or Progressive Indirect Design Transfer.
And then became a pocket piece? I'm going to put it under the microscope to check for excessive fingerprint damage. Also seems to be the nwl variety. The color I think is natural toning but like all the coins from this collection was cleaned:-( Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this.

*Edited***With a brief microscopic look, I believe that the dryer and pocket piece theories are correct. It does have a melted metal look to it and the wear in certain areas suggests handling. Thanks again, for your expertise and knowledge.
