Are those pics taken through the plastic? If so, removing the coin to photograph it will help and a little more light.

To CCF! Something with your coin looks very fishy to me. I can see damage on the coin and very thin edges, which makes me think it was dipped in acid. The Copper on the coin looks like it was eaten away by the corrosive acid.

Wrong blank errors are always significant, and well worth keeping.

Nevertheless, you have to make certain that it is a authentic error, and not something doctored, or a fantasy, produced as a back yard 'shed job'.

This coin was resized (cut-down) outside the Mint. The perfect centering and the absence of metal flow in the peripheral letters are both red flags.

As the story goes, back in the 1950's - 1960's when it cost a dime to use the pay telephones and the really cool stuff was always in the dime gum ball machines, kids would file a penny down to match the size of a dime. Many an unsuspecting machine was taken advantage of this way. http://Lincolncentsonline.com/pmd.html

The coin dealership or shop where it was bought from definitely knew nothing about error coins unfortunately and isn't very trusting etheir. They screwed themselves buying this from some unknowledgeable person (not you). Be careful when buying error coins from coin shops as sometimes they don't know about the coins themselves! Take extra caution when buying error coins on ebay also.
