You're right on both counts. It is a SD and it is a bit off center. The weight indicates that it is copper.

It is a small date and by the weight you stated it is copper. It is a common cent. There are seven varieties of the 1982 cent. The 1982 D small date copper cent is the one to look out for as far as copper cents that year.

If you are looking for 3.1 grams in the 80's I think you are trying to find a 1983 3.1g Lincoln Cent...I have seen a picture of one on a scale and they are extremely rare.
