One of the things I managed to cross off my wantlist at the recent coin show was a mediaeval Irish penny. I particularly wanted one like this one: a uniquely Irish style, with a triangular frame around the king's portrait rather than the more usual circular border.
It's a penny of Edward I, King of England and Lord of Ireland, issued sometime in the period 1279 to 1302.
The reverse confirms it's Irishness: CIVITAS DUBLINIE, City of Dublin.
