The date has a faint copy of the number. And the reverse the phrase above the memorial seems to have some issue in the height?

Not doubled die. Looks like die deteration to me. All die deteration is, is the metal is being shoved upwards into the fields due to constant pounding, and the devices (numbers and letters) take its shape around the edge. Pound something hard enough into the dirt and the dirt forms a mound that takes the shape of what you hit the ground with. Kind of the same concept
