Hi all.

You were good enough to help me out with an early Greek coin last year but I'm afraid I've done it again: bought something that I just cannot nail down.

I have a whole bag of (what I am reasonably certain are) Persian coins including silver dirhams and a number of copper coins. The one below is what caught my eye and made me "buy blind", but I'm drawing blanks everywhere I look.

Can anyone identify or point me in a new direction of research?

Apologies - I forgot some of the basic information: the coin is slightly oval and measures 19.2 x 18.4mm
Rest in Peace

Early Falus of Iran?

That's what I thought, but I can't find anything similar enough to be sure.

The lion L. appears similar to the one on this coin

http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/in...opic=37474.0

identified as a falus of Iran, 8.33 g. Unfortunately the coin in this link is not well attributed, and it doesn't have the writing found on the coin in question here.
I'm just thinking the animal may put you in the ballpark.

Thank you all but, BobL .... I feel like doing a "Wayne's World", we're not worthy!

I've spent most spare hours over the last two weeks trying to nail down this coin. I was sure that Persia (Iran) would be right, I never thought Persia/Syria... and I certainly din't think to go back to the 13th century!

I suppose I shouldn't mention that I have over ten similar coins along with 20 silvers ...?

Hi all,

I've finally found a little time to go through some more of these coins but, just like last time, I find myself at a loss with some of them. Frankly, I'm outside of my field.

I hoped that some here could help me identify the following. You should know that these coins will be offered for sale - that is a consideration for some people, I realise, so I think it's best to be completely open from the off.

There are seven coins in total, I hope it's not against the rules to put them all in one post.

1) seems to me to be a fals but I'm struck by the crescent within the star and can find nothing similar. weight is 1.7g and diameter approx 17.9mm at its widest point.

2) another fals but this one is much thicker, weighing 2.9g with a diameter of 18mm at the widest.

3) moving on to five larger coins, this is 3.1g and measures 22.5mm at the narrowest and 25.1mm at the widest points.

4) 4.3g and 20.8mm x 24.0mm

5) this one's also 4.3g and measures 21.6 x 23.4mm

6) now we're moving to a whopping 6.1g and 23.5 x 26.7mm

7) saving the poorest quality for last, this one looks like it's spent some time in the ground. It weighs 3.0g and measures 21.9mm x 24.4mm

I'd just like to thank you all for even looking at the thread. I hope that some of you get some useful information out of it because I learn something new every time I read this forum. If you can help me out with an identification or even just a pointer in the right direction, thanks.
