I am going to be buying a bunch of coin tubes. I think I would prefer the square ones. The look like they are safer for the coins, stack together better, and won't roll.

Just wondering, is there is any down side to these that I didn't think of? I realize they are a little more expensive, but aside from that?

I also saw 2 different brands of them CoinSafe and Numis at about the same price. I imagine there are others as well.

Is there a brand that I should look for...Or try to avoid?

CoinSafe square tubes have the advantages you mentioned, are much less likely to break or crack, and are made of coin-friendly material.

Yep, you have figured out the only downside to the square tubes- the cost. If that does not bother you, then look for a bulk deal on them if you are buying 50-100.

Squares are the way to go. I've bought used lots on ebay averaging fifty cents a piece. New ones on ebay go for about .90/ea (factoring in shipping).

Thanks everyone. It all makes sense to me except one thing. Deadmunny made reference to them costing about 50c used and 90c new. The ones I found are 35c-45c new CoinSafe and Numis tubes at JPsCorner.com. Did I just find a pretty good deal or are these substandard?

My only suggestion is to be careful with the lids if they are not a screw on top. I started out with a bunch of these and had problems with a fair amount of them staying closed and also too easy to open. If you plan on opening these a lot then make sure to get some type of box to lay them in that will keep the lid flush with the end of the box to prevent them from opening. Also, be very careful when moving them, one wrong fall could really mess up a nice collection.

Penny pincher...thanks. I just ordered about 60 of them to try them out. There were 2 brands to choose from and from the illustrations it looked like neither had threaded screw-on caps. That concerned me but I figured that it must not be a problem....apparently it may be. I will be sure to be careful and keep them in a container that will insure the integrity of the lids thanks to your advice.
