Here it is my friends the New release of the Royal Canadian Mint  1908-2008 A century of growth transformation In 1908 the instutition that would become known as the Royal Canadian Mint officially opened for business. To celebrate this they have issue a new 1908-2008 Sterling Silver Dollar This Special edition Silver Dollar contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper.It as a diameter of 36.07 milimetres and weighs 25.175 grams. Designed byCanadian artist Jason Bouwman,it feature two iconic symbols of Canada,a maple leaf and Common Loon emergingfrom the coin;one transforming into the other on the winds of change that have shaped the Mint's success during the first centenial.The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Mine was in order at the beginning of May they where supposed to be issue only in June 15 I guess they decided to issue them early

I'll be stopping at the bank tomorrow morning to put mine away. I keep the boxes/cases at home and the coins in a big J&M silver dollar case at the bank.

Hey Marc This is a very good picture of the 100 years old anniversary of the mint,i got mine three week ago,there is another one comming out at the end of the month it's the 2008 silver loonie it is selling at $ 49.95 I got mine set aside when they get it I will list it here for you people to look at it closely

Marc, just imagine you are sitting in front of a 6' TV! Isn't that a beauty? I gotta have one of those! I'll have to wait until August, to go for it, tho, because July is all shot down! thanks for posting such a beauty! Dick

Dick - not to brag about my TV - but I have a 12' diagonal hirez projector screen size... (no kidding) 6' is sooooo passe.  Marc

marc, that is nice!You are very lucky. I use mine, a 27", for viewing coins. Makes the MM look a little bit clearer. One thing for sure, that new 2008 silver dollar would look great on that screen! Dick

has any one got the 1908-2008 silver 50 cent piece yet? heres mine... also 49.99 and only 16,000 minted. mine is number 158/16000

Yep! - Just got it, looks very much like the 1998 50 Cents (part of the 90th Anniversary Proof Coin Set). The 2008 has a thicker rim and larger denticles compared to the 1998. And of course the 1998's obverse was Elizabeth II.   Marc
