Hi all,

I have a coin or maybe a medal that I can't identify, all I know is that it is from Persia (or maybe I'm wrong?) it is Gold(?).

It's not listed in the Krause world coin catalogue, and it lacks any of the "normal" features found on coinage of the Iranian monarchy (the lion-and-sun, or the Persian crown), so I'd assume it's a medal.

The medal is dated "2536", which is according to the very short-lived Monarchial calendar, dating from the founding of the Persian Empire and only used for a couple of years, just prior to the revolution. Year 2536 equates to 1977 AD.

As for what it commemorates, there are coins issued this same year with a similar design commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Shah's father, Reza Shah, so it's likely this is a medal commemorating the same event. I assume the portraits are meant to be the Shah with his mother and father.

As for whether it's gold, you'd have to get it tested. A specific gravity test would tell you whether it was solid gold or simply gold-plated.

I can't read Persian (or Arabic). I have a very helpful book, "Arabic Coins and How to Read Them" (which helped with your Zanzibar coin), and I could sit down and try to translate it from first principles, but it'd probably be easier to ask a native speaker.
