22mm General Lafayette Coin Medal Token?

Could anyone help with this coin. Might be a token or a medal, I have no idea. One side has what looks like the American eagle and approx 24 stars. The other side has a very worn portrait. Going by the starting letters GENE and the ending letters ETTE, I believe it is of General Lafayette, and probably dates to approx 1824. All and any help is very much needed. Going mad trying to pin it down.
