The motto and scroll were recessed in the die and grease and gunk could fill them and the resulting coins with weak and missing details. -MV Report this Post to the Staff

Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 03/01/2018 10:16 pm Letters on the scroll are often weak or missing due to a slightly week strike and the fact that the scroll is opposite Liberty's bust which required a fair amount of metal to fill. Enough so that there often wasn't enough metal to fill the scroll on the other side. Report this Post to the Staff
