Looking through some LMC's and found this 1987 D LMC with what appears to be a doubled ear. Here is the question, what makes this 2009 LMC WDDO-009 class VIII different from the one I have? I know its not from a hit because I posted last year of one that was a different year with the EXACT same doubling in the EXACT same place. Insight please!

First off , great pics !
Try grabbing another 87 cent and shoot the same closeup. Compair the two side by side and I feel you will see the ear on your coin has not increased in size.
If you did the same test with the 2009 DDO you would find the ear lobe has increasrd in size on the doubled die

Thank you @stoneman227! The one I posted about last year was a 1999 with the exact same doubling in the same location. Looking at pics of both of those cents in comparison to a normal ear I am beginning to think it may be Machine Doubling. I may have jumped the gun my friend!

Here is a 1999 D with the exact same doubling that I posted about last year. Strange to say the least.

MD happens a lot in that spot, it could be a hit, the result could be very similar there. As Stoneman mentioned the proof is it is not an enlarged lobe.
