Looking through some cents and found this 1978 D LMC. At first I thought I was seeing double from looking at so many Lincolns then I refocused and here THEY are!

It sure looks like it is doubled, now if it is not a plating issue you may have a DDR. I'd like to wait and hear from experts on this one.

Chase007, I tried the toothpick method and its solid as a rock. There is no DDR listed on VV for a DDR for this year.

1978 is not a plated coin. Check the web sites for a doubled die.

@John1, I see nothing but one for the 1978 D, and that one is extra thickening on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and the date. That was on Coneca's site.

I think maybe a well placed chip. If it was a DDR, chances are there'd have been others by now.

With the exact same outline? There have been a lot of mint errors that took years to find after being minted. It could be a chip but I'm betting not. Too much detail I don't think it is MD as there is no sign of that on any of the devises. I'm definitely no expert though.

If you are convinced it's a DDR, message John Wexler and send him these images to see what he thinks. I'm kinda lost on this one, but kinda leaning on it to be a DDR.

I did E&V. He said they were interesting pics but was non commital until he has the cent in hand. I am going to send it to him for attribution. Although it was through email he sure seems like a nice guy.

Jim, he's a pretty nice dude. It will take a couple of weeks for your coins (if you've sent a lot) to come back. If it's just one coin, then it shouldn't take too long. I wish the best of luck to you and hopefully it's a DDR. Update this post when the news comes out with John Wexler. :)
