Hello. I am in Australia. I inherited my dad's collection.

The writing on this coin is very close to the rim. The 9 goes into the rim. The top ot the L and I also. Was this a commen thing.

It looks like a regular 1973 Quarter to me. As the coin wears the numbers will blend more and more into the Rim.
Even in Mint state the numbers touch.

I just pulled a '73 from my change drawer that looks almost identical.
Sometime in the late 70s they designed the lettering further from the rim.
