Getting back to the original question why wouldn't the government be able to get to your deposit box?
You can enjoy your liberties as long as the government lets you but if they decide different do you really think Uncle Sam would hesitate to steamroll over a liberty or two to get what they want?
As far as searching each and every deposit box, well, that wouldn't be needed. Prosecute a few people, with some high profile media coverage, and who would want to risk hanging on to their bullion? You know they would find a few holdouts at the start and if everyone sees those holdouts getting a year or two in prison for defying the government what would happen? Would you risk jail time to hang on to what your bullion hoping that someone you know doesn't turn you in for a reward?
I know a lot of people are going to be saying this isn't the same thing but look what happened to NORFED.
Think the same couldn't happen to you?

I actualy DO work for the Federal Government!
Well, knock it off, you're making everybody else look bad.
Get a mug of coffee and a clipboard and wander around looking busy. And don't forget to hold a fake media interview.

OK, so pretend that the government does somehow have the man power to start a search of all the safe deposit boxes in the USA. With approximately millions of them and one or more government people searching each box, hired companies to pry or drill many out, a bank person there to monitor, you've now accounted for about 50% of the entire population. And then just what are they doing with whatever they find? So they open a box, find a divorce degree, a will, a title for a boat. So now what do they do? Why they would have to document all that of course. So now we end up with our government with trillions of sheets of paper that must be entered into a computer so that now means to hire another million typists. This entire subject should have been on the Twilight Zone Program. It is difficult enough to get our politicians to do anything normal so why would they start that?

with Carl...... If they would ever request/order everyone to turn in their gold and silver for the sake of the Government, there would be very minimal "busting" of people who didn't turn in theirs. And there would not be a "jack-booted thug" govt. group of "hit men" going around and taking your/our safety deposit boxes........nor would they be kicking in your door to get your safe because a neighbor claimed you had silver and gold at your house. None of this would happen to me anyway......cause when I first get wind of it....I'll pick up and head for Alaska and dig my bunker !....."my cold dead hands!"....nuff said!....

The concept of the government seizing safe deposit boxes en mass is foolish. If they want your money they'll do it the old fashion way, by raising taxes.

A bigger or more likely risk may be that it happens on a more local level for some reason. Recall that Ray Nagin ignored all local laws and the Constitution with respect to legally posesed firearms when New Orleans flooded. What he did was completely illegal but that didn't stop him as he had the manpower. Once someone else has your stuff, you're screwed. e.g. Whats to prevent a local bank manager and his pals from confiscating your stuff in the name of an emergency. Sure it may not be right or legal but he's in Mexico now. Bye-bye valuables.

Scenario: A terrorist rents a large sage deposit box at a major high-profile bank. It goes boom at a critical time. The government in it's wisdom passes a law that requires banks to inventory all safe deposit boxes and maintain that list for the government. You have three days to open your box in front of a bank representative, while it is video taped. After that period it is drilled, inventoried, and the contents 'securely' held until you claim them. No problem, what do you have to hide?
*****
Have you ever pawned a gun? If so, there is documentation of that ownership in the records of the pawnshop. Forever, by Federal law. Of course, again, as a law-abiding citizen, there is no problem, right?
Just pay the tea tax and shut up.........

I agree that the govt. is not going to have time or people power to go through safe deposit boxes. They can get all the money they want by i) printing more of it or ii) raising taxes, or iii) doing both i) and ii).

I don't blindly trust the government, nor do I blindly follow conspiracy theories.
