We have all heard stories involving people who get old small headed bills and united states notes and silver certificates in circulation.

So has anyone gotten a gold certificate in circulation? What about north africa notes? Hawaii notes. 1929 national currency notes.

Share your stories.

I actually once received a 1929 national currency note from the bank. A $100 bill.

In Australia, I would consider myself very lucky, if I could get one in any condition out of a coin shop, or at a coin show.

Most of the notes you mention - certainly North Africa, Hawaii, FRBNs and odd Nationals - were commonly seen in the 1950s, along with the occasional $1 red seal US Note. I can remember seeing $10 golds once in awhile, and surely the $20s must have been around as well.

Remember, these carried no premium at the time.

As a 12-year old, I used to go down to the local bank on Saturday morning and search through bags of any denomination I wanted, including silver dollars.

Times have changed.

I think I was given a 1929 FBN $20 in change at Resort casino one time. I remember the bill was odd (I didn't know what an FBN was at the time) and I saved it to the last but, alas, the casino got it back.

When I was a teller, on rare very rare occasions I would see 1934 series FRN's, and I got 2 silver certificates including a $10 one. Another teller I worked with got a funny back $1 silver cert, showed it to me, and then decided to keep it in their teller box. Well one day, a customer saw her counting her box, and she ended up giving it to him because she had forgotten what exactly it was lol.
