1972 Lincoln Memorial Cent / LMC With Extra Piece Of Column?

Ilikeabecoins Valued Member United States 262 Posts	Posted 03/12/2018 8:58 pm Hi all I was looking at this coin for the DDO die markers when I noticed something that looks like a little piece of an extra column in bay 4. I'm not sure if it is a DDO because I couldn't locate any markers for sure (it's kind of dirty). Could you check out these pics and see what you think? Thanks. Report this Post to the Staff

It is not a doubled die. All Lincoln Memorial cents should have these extra columns. Report this Post to the Staff

There is a small extra piece of something (that looks like it could be column) at the bottom of bay 4 slanted NW to SE. Did you see any doubling on the obverse? Thanks for checking for me. Crazyb0 Rest in Peace 10197 Posts	Posted 03/12/2018 11:57 pm MDD if any on obverse on the B in LIB N of IN but noting else. That's a "innie" damage. Think coin surface on the DIE, that would have to be material INSIDE the device to make those marks. Report this Post to the Staff

Ilikeabecoins Valued Member United States 262 Posts	Posted 03/13/2018 3:35 pm The bays in the memorial are incused on the face of the coin, so they would be raised areas on the die. Correct so far? So to make a raised area in the bay there would have to be an incused area on that particular part of the die. Correct so far? So something, at some point, made an impression into the reverse die where the area is for bay 4. Right? Report this Post to the Staff
