Hello:
I will be detecting at the beach. I have seen perforated metal scoops on- line that are cylinder shaped. I have also seen shovels, both perforated and non-perforated.
Which do you prefer for both wet and dry sand?

I think an army trenching tool is best; the type with a little pick at the other end of the spade.
That allows you to dig sand, as well as hardened dry clay.
They are rugged and foldable for stowage in your SUV.

Sel gave you an excellent tool suggestion. Ive tried two different tools with sieves on beaches and broke both of them before their first day of use was over.

For beach detecting a perforated scoop is a must .
