I inherited several coins, this one was interesting..not sure if a token or currency. Have seen post on octagon shape, and everybody says it's a token worth its weight in gold, if it's gold?

Hi Dlh. This is a half dollar, not Half Cent. It looks like a california gold fractional issue.

Looks like you posted two images of the reverse. Does the obverse look like the one in this image?

CALIFORNIA GOLD
Bear walking right, 1/2 above

If so, this is Goldene or fake gold.

Sorry, but it is a fake golden half dollar. The bear on the reverse gives it away as a fake. It is probably not made of gold, but don't throw it aside as such just yet. There were fakes made of lower purity gold, as well. I can't help with that but to make you aware of the possibility.

Thank you for the info...good to finally know. Sure did post two of same side... It does look exaxtly like the one on your pic/link. Well I'll put it back in the pile and post another one that I'm pretty sure isn't US, in the appropriate forum.
Thank you both!
