Bobby131313 is right. I don't know the seller, but he does. That is a basic due diligence first step completed, in checking the reputation of the seller, before submitting a bid.
Appraised at $7.5M, reserve above $6M. It's not unreasonable to not accept that "loss", or the seller set an absurdly high reserve in order to see what bidders are willing to pay.
