Ran across this tonight on ebay. $5.1 million, reserve not met, and under 72 hours to go. What a beautiful set! Not my set by the way... I don't even own a gold coin! Edited by Vermillion Flycatche 04/06/2018 12:09 am

Why is that on ebay? I'm watching it now just in case I can sneak a bid in during the last few seconds!

16 unique bidders so far. Free shipping really reels 'em in!

No returns, though?

I am getting the vibes that: A.) All they are trying to do is get an idea of the true market value of such a set, or B.) Using ebay for advertising purposes. Probably as a bonus, if in fact that a generous enough offer is made, they just may be tempted to accept it.

That would be a hard set to build and a harder set to give up.

ebay fees top out at $400. I think there is no ceiling on Paypal fees though. ebay is actually a pretty good place to sell high value coins.

Should be for sale at Stack's Bowers/Heritage/Legend/Great Collections. Not ebay. Even if I had that much money, I would never purchase something with that high value on ebay.

reserve not met! reserve is not disclosed. Description says appraised at $7.5 million. ebay fees are capped, so will be much cheaper to sell no buyer's premium, so will be theoretically cheaper to buy Payment terms: Paypal 5,000 deposit, then seller requires a wired payment of the balance.

Quote:. Even if I had that much money, I would never purchase something with that high value on ebay. Why not, that's just silly not to just because of some stigma. They're easily traceable and from a real seller. If the market was there you'd see ebay flooded with listings like this since the fees are capped

ebay fees cheaper than Heritage auction fees. Much more important:- You have to know the reputation of the seller. If someone had the money to buy and was interested, and the reputation of the seller not known, the next obvious step would be to fully investigate the seller's reputation. That is one of the reasons why Heritage fees are high. At this price level, I would also verify the slabs. The TPGrader should be able to confirm.

Think of all the additional traffic that's being driven to his other auctions merely because of this one listing

Accept the offer, get the $5000 PayPal deposit, then get the wired balance, and don't ship anything. PayPal has the buyers back, for $5000. The buyers on the hook for the rest of it. Of course if the seller gets caught its wire fraud.
