Hey guys!
I recently visited my parents and my dad had me go through his coins. I found this gem. I have no idea what it is, but it looks like an error of some sorts. The coin looks like it cut off with the date, and the United States of America on the reverse. I believe it to be a large cent? I am very new to coin collecting so all information is appreciated
Thank you!

looks like a large cent shaved down on the rim. Is it now the size of a small cent?

Unfortunately, it appears to be damage ( PMD).

Used to be an 1840? large cent ground down, probably to fit a jewelry bezel.

Or to make it seem like a nickel? Is it the diameter of a nickel?

Large Cents like this, cut down to the size of small cents, served as calling cards for Democrat "Copperheads" during the Civil War. Some were soldered onto pins and worn on lapels by those who were opposed to the war. At times, fights and even small riots broke out when these war protesters aired their views in public. Thus, many took to carrying these small pieces in their pockets as symbols of anti-war brotherhood.

Value-wise, these will sell in the $10-$20 range; this, given their history. Wikipedia has a write-up on the movement .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coppe...d_(politics)

Here are two from my collection ...
