Lim the better question is are you a meallion collector?
They look very nice, but I would not buy them as I do not like medallions.
I suppose what I am asking is other then their proof beauty, what is the attraction?

No lars, I am not much of a collector of medallions or tokens unless they are internment camp tokens. Attraction The mere price of the set. Figure it out, 71 grams per medallion multiply by 6 medallions and I only paid AUD65.00 for it...

If I'm doing the math right,(28 grams=1 ounce?)the total silver is over 15 ounces! At $8.85 an ounce melt it would be about $135.00 U.S ! Beautiful coins and a steal at that! Congratulations. It makes me want to go back to checking out yard and garage sales. It couldn't go to a better man. I know my daughter Katie, vast136 on the forum will mail you a thanks but I have to tell you she called me today and told me about the "Bonus Coins" you sent. She was thrilled and definately should become a "Knightess" and is already a die hard "Darksider" from way back when! Thanks very very much for your kindness and generousity Mike

Fair enough, I forgot what the silver price was these days.
I must join in and say............WELL DONE!
But are you going to sell them....my guess is no.

It is 31.6 grams to an ounce. Yes sometimes you never know what can be picked up at garage sales. Thanks for letting me know that Katie has received that parcel.Nothing like pleasant surprises to encourage young collectors in this great hobby of ours. I am sure the other Knights will welcome her into the fold, we can't have Kyra ruling the roost by herself....[:p] Happy New Year to you and Katie.

I may have caused a bit of confusion here as both Mike and your good self are right when a direct metric conversion is used. Being directly involved in the precious metals industry, my mind always think along the lines of TROY ounces and it was the Troy ounce conversion figures I used. Troy Ounce The traditional unit of weight for gold is the troy ounce, named, it is thought, after a weight used at the annual fair at Troyes in France in the Middle Ages. Although the metric system is used increasingly in mining and the gold business, the troy ounce remains the basic unit in which the price of 995 gold is quoted. One troy ounce = 31.1034807 grams, 32.15 troy ounces = 1 kilogram, 1 troy ounce = 480 grains, 1 troy ounce = 20 pennyweights (North American jewellery trade), 3.75 troy ounces = 10 tolas (Indian sub-continent), 6.02 troy ounces = 5 taels (Hong Kong), 1 troy ounce = 155.52 metric carats (diamonds/precious stones). Now the real bone of contention is "which one does Mints used" I took the weights of 12 different 1 oz silver Kookaburras this morning, out of the 12 weighed, 2 had readings of 31.2 grams, 6 had readings of 31.5 grams, 3 had readings of 31.6 grams and one registered 31.7 grams.

In addition to the above post, I have just weighed a 2002 Morgan Mint Silver dollar and the reading I got is 31.2 grams. Would have liked to take more weighings of US coinage but unfortunately it is the only 1 ounce silver coin I have from the US. I would be interested what our US friends get from their weighings of bullion coins.

Once again, I learn something new on the forum! Thanks for the clarification. Are all silver and gold coins measured in Troy Ounces? Mike Note, below the weights of Morgans, Peace dollars and American Silver Eagles all in Troy ounces at 31.1 grams! Has been an interesting afternoon Mike.... I have taken weights of the Canadian Maple leaf, the Aussie Kookas and the Aussie Silver Roos (all 99.9 silver coins)and they all come out with a minimum of 31.2 grams to the ounce. Have you any US 1oz 99.9 silver bullion coins to check out their weights It has also got me wondering about UK 1oz silver bullion issues. Would be great if a member who have those type of coins can post their findings. Have a Great New Year....
