Hi,
How would you grade this?
Personally, I'd go as high as AU. I don't think the lack of detail in the crown is due to wear. For comparison, I've attached an example from the next year, that was graded Au53.

These are tough. I think it is definitely a details coin with ED. The rims are also dented. Doesn't form a perfect circle. On the technical grade, your guess is as good as mine. To be honest, I think most TPG grades on colonials are total BS. Here's mine in vf-30.

If I send it back in next week it would come back as xf-45 or f-15

I see some corrosion on the left side of the second picture and a noticeable rim flattening thereabout. Looks like AU details corrosion and rim damage unless they determine that these were due to existing planchet flaws.

I am normally fairly confident when grading.
In this case, I would have been fooled.
I would have bought it, as if it was in Fine condition, also noting that there is some slight surface corrosion on the reverse.

On examination of the AU53 example, I agree that the legend is sharp enough for 53.
On the OP's coin, the legend seems to have suffered some wear, but with only a small detrimental effect to the coin's overall appearance.

Before seeing the AU53 example, I would have graded Fine, but now I would have to say VF.

With this particular coin, my opinion still has to be taken with a grain of salt. I still stand to be corrected.
