a penny scale , or you may know someone that is not a law abiding citizen there scales would work , but if you have a coin shop or if the post master that likes you ask them if they can  |

I think I found it brudea: Google "picture of 1942 aluminum Lincoln Penny" OR "1942 aluminum Lincoln Penny" and you should find a picture among two others of a PCGS graded PR66.  J-2079 Aluminum penny Bingo -- the most expensive? Quote:"This 1942 Lincoln Cent is a regular die trial issue but struck in aluminum with a plain edge. It weighs 0.93 will weigh again on different scale to be exact

If it is about twice as thick and weighs 0.93 gr. as @coop states above. It is going to be interesting.  Kindly let us know. The J-2079 Cent is unique. If the J-2079 is almost twice as thick as a regular Cent, then it should weigh around 1.8 grams.
This is not that coin. Reported weight 0.93 grams.
It appears very worn, as well.
In my mind, my first suspicion still holds.
Illegal dies hubbed off a bronze 1942 Cent, to strike a blank stamped out of aluminum sheet.
Charles M. Larson, in his book
Numismatic Forgery, shows how such dies can be made.

Well we shall certainly see as I will have it looked at by a local shop. This penny has been sitting in my closet for 4 years. I thought it was a 1943 Steel Penny as I have about 7 of them. I decided to look through my old coins the other day and saw that this date was different. I am not a coin collector. Most of my stamps and coins came from a 99 year old lady who passed away

Well keep in mind that the odds of a local coin shop knowing anything about a J-2079 are slim to none. Don't think for one second that just because it says "coins" on the sign that they're experts. I can't tell you how many times we've had people come here with obvious counterfeit coins telling us the local coin shop told them it was real.

Its just not any coin shop as I am very selective as to where I take anything. I agree with you as well
