Hi, I've had this coin for a while now, but have had no luck so far finding out what it is or where and when it's from. If anybody has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

It's in pretty bad shape, but I can tell from the symbol on the coat of arms (a wheel) that it's from the Archbishopric of Mainz, a German ecclesiastical state back in the 1700's.

Here's an example of a similar coin on CoinArchives. Unfortunately, all I can make out on the reverse is the "PF" from "PFENNIG(E)". If you can tell us the diameter, we might be able to confirm what the denomination of yours is - Mainz issued 1, 2, 3 and 4 pfennig coins, all with similar designs.

An inch sounds right for one of the 4 pfennigs, like I linked to above. According top the catalogue, 1766 is the only year of mintage of this particular type.

Is it an overstrike? I can see a circle on the reverse. Could it be the wheel on the obverse?

No, I don't think it is, the picture just makes it look that way.
