Is this a die error or just PMD? Note the broken portion of the shield at right and at top.

Not an expert, but I suspect a piece of something (grease?) got stuck in the die at that spot.

Probably grease, or an over polished die.

Shield nickels are rarely collected by variety, although there are a few folks who delve into die types and die states.

SN's had really tough times with die cracks and chips.

In MOST instances they do not advance the value.
