I know that zinc Lincoln cents should weigh 2.5 grams. The question is about underweight zinc cents. If you have a cent that shows virtually no sign of wear and no gas bubbles at what weight would you would consider that cent underweight?

Don't forget that mint tolerance is +/- .13 grams.

It seems the mint"tolerances" are a suggestion more than law. I have found 2.0-3.0 to be the range found, so say +/-.5g. The extrusion technology must plate any width zinc plate, copper plating remains relatively standard. If you could accurately halve the coin and measure in microns, that would further indicate the variances. Any Einstein's wanna take a crack at this?

That is a nice one. For some reason when I'm roll hunting good 1983s elude me. So do good looking 1969s.

Having a copper plating that isn't spotting is a rarity in and of itself
