$12.00 for a 1935 (supposedly uncirculated) I noticed this in my newspaper yesterday.......this seems a little steep to me.....or is this about right ?... Should I leave this alone ?....or jump on it ?....or try to haggle down to what..$8.00 - $10.00 ? I've never seen any paper currency in our paper before...... The same person wants $75.00 for three Walking Lib. Halves too !!....supposedly uncirculated as well........ ...dunno...I'm probably just interested in the Silver Certificate.

Can you see the actual note you'll be purchasing before hand? It seems a bit pricey to me... My local dealer always has 35s in crisp condition for 6 or so dollars. Seems you can pick on up on ebay for 5-8ish.. I tend to lean towards buying notes that I see in person.. though I did pick up a Hawaii note and a gold certificate off APMEX.com not too long ago and was very happy with my purchases.

I'd have to call the phone number he's listed and drive over to wherever he lives, but yeah, I could certainly look at it first.....but if the range is $5.00 - $8.00ish....then i'd have to "haggle" as he wants $12.00 apparantly.
I don't have any information yet on paper currency...no books....no nuthin' !..and readily admit my ignorance.....so that's why I asked here first before considering this. But, yup.....I'm with you, I wouldn't ever buy anything sight unseen, nor would I go to look at something to purchase without being knowledgeable as to it's value....... Hey, what did you pay for the Gold certificate if you don't mind ? And describe a bit more detail with that one please!.....I've seen em' before, but never wanted to pay the money they were asking !....Have ya got a pic of it ?

You need him to check what series it is and if it contains IGWT on the back.
IGWT was not added until the G and H series Some G's don have it.
From my understanding the IGWT carry a slightly higher premium as there are fewer then without in the overall series.

Eaglefoot- I paid 51 dollars for this 1928 $20 gold certificate. It's far from crisp uncirculated, but the price was right. Image: goldcert.jpg72.23 KB

He is on the way to my office right now.....says he has three of them....all 1935...all uncirculated....one 1935 A, one 1935 C, and one 1935 E..... I "haggled and asked if he'd take less, like maybe $8.00 or so, and he said no. He said according to his "book" they are worth $12.00 each.... I said would you offer me a better deal if I took all three, then he says yes, he'd sell all three of them to me for $30.00. Daviscfad........I doubt they're "star notes" .......we'll see. Series A is in the $300.00 range ?....Whooaa !.......maybe I can get a sweet deal here after all then ! The RedBook version with "coins"....we know that you have to "ignore" the "price values" listed in there, because they're way off from the real value...... Is it the same with your " RedBook with paper currency" ? Maybe $30.00 for these three bills isn't too bad then ?

I'm not sure about a straight 1935A going for 300.. You can get one in VF on ebay for less than 7 dollars. Maybe you're referring to a series of 'experimental' notes that were printed... Eaglefoot - if the 1935A note he has features an odd, out-of-place looking red S or R on the right side of the bill, then it could very well carry a premium of 150+. These letters identify the note as being printed on an expiremental new paper, which was never used. Interested to find out

its on page 69 and 70 of the RedBook. they have a 1935 series a going for 10 bucks in unc. it was like 6 billion of them printed. but they also have a 1935a "not star" that goes for a lot more only little over a million printed sorry for not giving better details. there are actually three variety type 1935a notes that have blue seal silver certificate. then you got the 1935a brown seal hawaii and the 1935a notes issued for the armed forces in europe and north africa with a yellow seal. so actually 5 different varieties of notes from 1935a. All silver certificates

Okay, he left and I have them...... Quote: out-of-place looking red S or R on the right side of the bill No....it didn't have a "red S or R"..... (had one letter wrong earlier)(here's what I have now) series 1935 A series 1935 C series 1935 D Each is a "blue seal" Silver CertificateThey are "crisp" and in great condition, but with a "stain" here and there..and just not the clean and really crisp that I would expect for that classification myself...I would not call them true "uncirculated" .....but I'm an admitted "greenhorn" with these so..... No star notes No "low" serial numbers No consecutive serial numbers I'm assuming these are just "regular run of the mill" then ?....$10.00 for each one a little high I'm guessing... a $7.00 ebay purchase probably been better maybe? (plus ebay shipping and handling and the fee) (though I'm not an Ebayer person)

It depends on the seriers of 1935 your talking about. If its for a 1935 H series, Id say thats about right and you should jump on it due to the low printing figures.
But you should haggle him down to $8. If he doesn't agree, and you say $10 and he still doesn't agree. Just walk out then

Once he came to my office and I purchased the 3 Silver Certificates, and after talking with him at great length....(he's an older handicapped retired person).......we kind of began some "coin talk". I've talked to him twice since then......he's offered to search for any coins I may need to fill holes.....says he enjoys doing that for people and has done that for years. Might have an "elder" to learn something from now !........but just got to watch that he doesn't think I'm a "money farm" or anything !.......and judging by the "overpayment" I did on these Silver Certificates.....I'm concerned that I might be offered "high prices" on any and everything from him.....(?) But, if we get to become better friends.....maybe he won't try to make "top dollar" on stuff offered......dunno.....we'll see. He called offering me a Morgan and a Peace from his safe.......I told him I need to save money for a few weeks first !......
