Can anyone direct me to information that compares the different grading system to each other? Today I saw a coin described as FC30 which meant nothing to me.
Just started collecting and there is so much to learn.

FC30 is not a grade, it is the sellers inventory number.
I saw the same dollar on ebay.

I am an ancients, hammered, milled and World coin collector, (the lot).

I grade all U.S. coins using Sheldon, simply because the majority of CCF members are American.

I grade World using the British system, but Sheldon grades are easier to use in the range of MS60-70, so I am tempted to grade World coins in the MS60-70 range as well.
There is a huge value difference between MS60 and MS70, as most American collectors will appreciate.

Grading ancients is in a different ball park, and I really don't like slabbed ancient coins at all. Many more factors come into play, when grading ancients, and I always ignore any slab grades that I see. Some Third Party Graders won't even touch ancients, and I can understand why.

I will grade ancients, hammered and milled coins with British grade results, but to grade on the effects of wear, nicks and scratches alone, just doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm from a time when there was only Good, Fine, Uncirculated and Proof. Or G, F, you and Pr. All the other stuff like MS, VF-20, AU-55, etc. I just sort of ignor. Probably should get used to it all but I'm just to old so I'll stick to my simple system.
