1912 Newfoundland 20 Cent Looks Frosted

mail187man Valued Member United States 265 Posts	Posted 05/16/2018 8:21 pm I bought a box of foreign coins (to me, I'm in the US) and when going through picking silver found this 1912 Newfoundland 20 cent piece. My question is what is going on with it? It looks frosted. In hand, it looks very similar to the frosted look a reverse proof would have except it covers both sides of the entire coin. I looked at pics online and they don't normally look like this. Any ideas? Report this Post to the Staff

mail187man Valued Member United States 265 Posts	Posted 05/16/2018 9:25 pm I wondered if it was fake too. I did the magnet test as well as checked the weight. My scale was bouncing between 4.7g and 4.8g which according to my web search, it is the correct weight. Sounds like silver when I tap it as well. Report this Post to the Staff

It's strange because I've never seen a coin get this kind of look to it that wasn't meant to have a frosted look. That's why I knew I had to ask CCF. I know it is technically a damaged coin, but in hand, I actually kind of like the way it looks. It really does look cool. I know the value is low, but I like it. Report this Post to the Staff
