Here is an example of a recent purchase. Sultans of Delhi Sultan Firuz Shah Tughlag 1309-1388 Firuz was a Turkic Muslim of the Tughlaq dynasty and Sultan of Delhi from 1351-1388. Islamic Coins & their values# 2520 During this period the Sultans where not native Indian but came from Persia, Iraq and regions in Turkey and Central Asia. It wasn't until the time of Akbar the Great of the Mughal empire in the 16th that true Indian rulers appeared.
