I must be the only person who purchased the mint sets on this site. Hopefully someone else gets this set and can let me know what their Thorpe D buck looks like....

Well, if it helps any, my "D" part of the set also looks just a bit more 'proofy' than the "P" coins.

Not much of a difference, but the "D" dollar does have more of a silver-ish hue than the "P". By no means do the Philly coins look bad in any way, but you are right about the slight difference.

Mine are still in the plastic cards. Is it possible the difference is due to a variance of the plastic and not the coins? I also have this year's dollar coins from Mint rolls and they ("P" & "D") are similar.

On the other hand, many of the Denver quarters I've picked up in change the past year or two always seem a little nicer (shinier/cameo) than any Philadelphia coins I find.

A coin can be circulatING (minted as a ciruclating coin) but not be ciruculatED.

Also, I was 'told' today in another post that what we really got was a CIRCULATED set.

Quote:
According to the US Mint, circulated coins is defined as:

"Circulating coins are the coins that the United States Mint produces for everyday transactions. Circulating coins are also included in the United States Mint's annual coin sets, which are the staple of coin collecting."
